About The Language Artist

I’m Kate Hudson-“The Language Artist”. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Writing from John Carroll University and a Master of Arts in Education in the field of Literacy Intervention from Baldwin Wallace University. I started The Language Artist LLC because in my 8 years of college and 12+ years of teaching, I have learned a tremendous amount about the science of reading and writing and the ways in which individual children acquire learning. I have a passion to share what I know in ways that are unbound by the bureaucracy of public school teaching and strict curriculum based learning.

I am a former Title I Reading Specialist, Small Group Instructor and Public School Teacher. In all my years teaching, I desperately craved the freedom to teach differently and allow student needs and individual learning styles guide my instruction, rather than teaching from a manual or standardized curriculum. Focused, attuned and tailored attention to an individual child’s learning needs, style of learning and the unique way they connect with the world around them-makes all the difference in the world.

As a classroom teacher, no matter how hard I tried to differentiate my instruction, tailor lessons so that some kids wouldn’t get bored and some wouldn’t be left confused, it was never enough to truly meet them at eye level and give them a full hour of my time and attention, with forethought and consideration given to who they are and how they learn. I’ve worked with all grade levels in the areas of writing and I have extensive knowledge of the various gradations of language acquisition and writing that each learner “should” be able to perform, based on their grade level. I work with each child to unlock their reading and writing potential and develop a lifelong love for both.
